Freeman Popover
With the mercury rising and summer holidays on the horizon, our minds are consumed by the allure with escapism retreats, seeking delectable respites from the everyday hustle and bustle, desperate for a plunge into the waters to clear the mind. The prospect of leisure activities by the poolside or along the coast ignites a sense of excitement within us. It is during these moments same time, every year, the desire for resortwear becomes an integral part of our summer wardrobe, as we seek attire that flawlessly blends style with comfort.
Effortlessly embodying a throw-on-and-go aesthetic, popovers can eliminate the need for excessive buttoning and unbuttoning. Their generally relaxed and drape-reliant silhouettes have unique abilities to transport us to a realm of pure bliss and relaxation. Post-swim, we have our moisture-wicking terry popovers to keep one free from sogging. Having learnt the loose-fitting attributes from our former popovers, we seek to find an alternative to fill the gap that differs from the usual sharp tailoring look but is more elevated than the terry proposition, dedicated to moments while en route to the beach before dipping into the sand and water, or a leisure retreat at the resort after changing out of the terry popover, or simply as a piece to serve both day and night.
Introducing the Freeman Popover. This is the long-sleeve popover redolent of the 1960s beach shirt with our modified twists, uniquely proportioned to pivot between a standalone statement and a stylish layering piece, worn tucked in or left out. The design comes with an enlarged deep chest pocket for cardholders and sunglasses, and a specially designed collar with horn buttons where need be - one right above the chest and the other below the neck to allow full fastening when the brisk wind dabs.
The essence of the design comes in the fit. The loose fit of this popover allows for unrestricted movement and comfort. The fabric gently skims the body, creating a flattering and relaxed look. With the loose-fitting flowingness, the design oozes an air of elegance, with effortless drape and graceful silhouette lending a touch of at-ease sophistication. Curved hem with raised side slits, the bottom forms a dynamic opening, taking the whole fluid form to another level. This comfort translates into a sense of self-assurance and radiates quiet confidence and elegance.
Currently in two proposed versions, the Mauve comes in wool/linen, which can develop a soft and lived-in texture over time, whereas the Wave in multicoloured blue striped seersucker takes advantage of its breezy lightweight structure for that seaside flair. We conjured up sceneries where the Freeman Popover could be styled and worn differently:
Coastal walks during seaside holidays often involve unpredictable weather conditions, including gusts of wind, cool breezes, and occasional shifts in temperature. The Freeman Popover proves to be an excellent companion for such walks, as it comes in long sleeves, expected to be rolled up most of the time for the at-ease look but can be buttoned up when the wind hits, yet never compromising on breathability. The loose fit of the popover creates a beautiful contrast against dress trousers. The interplay between structured lines and soft flowingness creates a visually captivating and modern aesthetic, leading to a visually appealing balance between tailored precision and relaxed elegance. The flowy nature of the popover softens the overall look, giving it a more approachable and effortless feel. One can also pair it with drawstring trousers to take the vacation look further away.
The loose-fitting and relaxed silhouette of the Freeman Popover allows for freedom of movement on the yacht or boat. Whether manoeuvring around the deck, steering the boat's wheel, or simply lounging, the popover creates a relaxed and sophisticated appearance that complements the nautical surroundings of yachts and boats, most importantly, provides comfort and ease. Its lightweight construction and flowy nature make it a practical choice for activities that require flexibility and mobility. On the functionality end, as a long-sleeve garment, it also provides protection against the long exposure to the sun and wind when on deck.
Associated with casual and relaxed settings, the Freeman Popover can also be transformed into a stylish evening dress-up piece. It can be layered with summer tailoring, ideally with textures such as linen, silk, and cotton or blended ones such as our CORE collection to create polished and sophisticated outfit outcomes. The popover goes over the jacket length leading to mismatched ending lengths and portrays a juxtaposed silhouette with sharp tailoring and structureless holiday garments, imparting a sense of effortless chic and elegance with the play of refreshing propositions. Paired with posh-boy loafers to barely-there sandals depending on the dress code, the popover does not have to be retired when cooler evenings approach as they can be an interesting take as a linen shirt replacement during holidays or parties, bridges the gap between formal and casual styles.
The Freeman Popovers are now available in two versions:
