The Dilemma Between Caviar and Corduroy, And The Unusually Adorable Brown Teddy
The Dilemma Between Caviar and Corduroy
Caviar and corduroy, much like chalk and cheese, epitomise two worlds—caviar embodying the epitome of urban opulence (do forgive the cliché, dear detractors), whilst corduroy exudes the wholesome tranquillity of country life. Ordinarily, these two realms remain steadfastly apart. Yet, as our seasonal theme proclaims ‘urban country’, these erstwhile adversaries have come to terms, shook hands, made love, melding together to form something uniquely ours.
The Caviar ‘suit set’, featuring a casual double-breasted jacket and the Civilman Trousers, a very Anthology kind of garment. Fitting for most kinds of events for the days and weeks, elegant enough to keep you dressed up and down, our ambition in creating the everyday versatile garment for town and country has never lost its way.
When the colour card of this creation was revealed to an Anthologist, a dear friend of the house, Mr. CK—an art museum curator specialising in 18th and 19th-century drawings—he remarked, ‘I perceive the essence of caviar, yet it echoes the hues of spruce’. The naming of this piece was a subject of much deliberation amongst our creators. The colour, the pièce de résistance, boasts an iridescent blend of brown and deep olive green, transforming with the play of light and shadow, akin to a chameleon. In varying lights, it reveals a spectrum of hues. Corduroy, synonymous with daytime country pursuits, also becomes evening-appropriate with its finer wale and captivating colour, lending itself to dinner dates or relaxed Sunday roasts, depending on the pairing.
This ensemble has swiftly become a seasonal favourite. Designed as a ‘faux suit’, the jacket features casual patch pockets and the trousers cheeky jean pockets. Concealed by the jacket’s skirt, it presents as a seamless suit set—secrets to be shared only with your closest confidants.
The Unusually Adorable Brown Teddy
Paddington, are you about? Or perhaps Pooh has tumbled into the mud? Merry Christmas, dear papa; it seems the festivities have arrived early. Uncle Simon (Crompton, of Permanent Style) has extended our Polo Coat collection with a third edition, marking our third year of collaboration. Woven from pure-coloured yarn, this herringbone-textured British wool coat envelops one in warmth, akin to a bear’s embrace. ‘Papa, did you bag a bear during today’s hunt?’ ‘Don’t be absurd, of course not. We’ve pheasant and pies for dinner; no need for more.’ Our urban country theme steers clear of firearms and harm to animals, embodying only joy and peace. An early Merry Christmas to all!
The Brown Teddy, envisioned for more casual styling than its predecessors, conjures images of dressy cowboys at the ranch or a country gentleman venturing into the city, borrowing the silhouette of a mature man strolling through Central Park. This coat, while having a semblance of formality, is ideally paired with jeans, chinos, loafers, and boots. Formal suits, though not its primary pairing, are not out of the question.
