The A Team's Eveningwear Lookbook
Time and place are ongoing conversations in our world. We care about wearing the right things at the right time. When the occasion calls for it, we never miss a moment to dress our best. However, eveningwear can sometimes diminish the fun. While many long-table dinners and representational events might demand the strictest black and white tie, other galas or events allow for more flexibility. Indeed, black tie is akin to wearing navy or grey suits—within a defined palette, removing much of the guesswork about having the right attire ready. Our recently launched eveningwear collection encapsulates this very essence.
Fancy events provide perfect excuses for dressing up. Sometimes, we desire personal flair and expression beyond 'just an expensive timepiece' or fancy cufflinks and studs. So, how can we master this game?
Here's a little something from us. Eveningwear can be fun! We gathered a few of our team members from the Hong Kong team, and have put together this eveningwear style lookbook we have always wanted to create The featured styles range from traditional to contemporary creative. Whether for future reference or a last-minute fix for the evening or upcoming days, if you're tired of reusing the same tuxedo and want to leverage your existing wardrobe, this guide will prove useful. Even with just one pocket square, you can see how different folds can shift and influence the narrative of the look.
The traditionalists’ take
Traditionalists adhere strictly to black and white, avoiding risks. For proper and serious 'black tie' occasions, let's still play by the book to avoid mistakes that could be talked about for years.
Buzz wears a double-breasted tuxedo in a 4x1 configuration. His bespoke creation, also available in ready-to-wear, features a lower buttoning point, showcasing a few more studs and a wonderfully draped bib front. This clean, decadent look evokes a Great Gatsby-esque aesthetic.
Jason dons a ready-to-wear off-white dinner jacket. The classic outfit stands out with its color, so it's best to avoid additional flashy elements. Instead of a shirt, to keep warm and add a different touch, a black cashmere rollback was paired, creating a dressed-down version of the opulently lavish off-white dinner jacket.
Creative Black Tie
Creative black tie is for the imaginative and daring, those who wish to break free from convention and stand out from the crowd. For those occasions when you want to inject a bit of fun into your attire, why not give these styling ideas a try?
Edward respects the traditional black and white color scheme, but instead of opting for a plain dinner jacket, he boldly chooses a houndstooth pattern. The notch lapel and monochromatic design make this daring choice surprisingly wearable. To balance the busy jacket, we suggest a simple fly-front shirt, letting the jacket take centre stage.
For a seamless outfit transition, consider swapping a sport jacket for the dinner jacket. The right colour is key. Edward pairs his custom oatmeal wool/cashmere double-breasted sport jacket with the same tuxedo trousers. Although this piece hasn’t received much coverage, if you’ve watched our cofounder Buzz’s recent video on social media, you’ll know there’s an exciting new program coming in 2025! Alternatively, a ready-to-wear ivory jacket could also work wonderfully.
Casper has a penchant for more a consistent palette of clothing. Earthy tones and denim are particularly flattering on him and he acknowledges that. To experiment, he starts with a traditional flamboyant pleated dinner shirt made from our Japanese chambray—creating an impressive outcome. Much like a Canadian tuxedo conveys a Canadian identity, this look perfectly captures Casper’s personal style. Forgoing a traditional tuxedo or dinner jacket, he opts for a Caviar corduroy jacket and black suede Bloomsbury loafers. During our lookbook shoot, we were torn between the Caviar and Black Corduroy, both of which work well, but envisioning a velvet dinner jacket, we believe a coloured version stands out better.
Crepe, often used in fine womenswear and traditional mens’ eveningwear, finds new life in a camel-coloured deadstock fabric we discovered. Initially crafted as a casual daily sport jacket for Buzz, we reimagined it for eveningwear, complete with notch lapels and patch pockets. This versatile piece defies the strictest dressing rules, proving that with the right styling, it fits perfectly into an eveningwear ensemble.
May this provide you with ample inspiration! Season’s Greetings from the entire TA Team. Wishing everyone here a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
