Oatmeal Herringbone Tweed Sport Jacket
Anthologists who have been with us since the beginning would know the herringbone piece makes one of The Anthology’s house classics. We are always mesmerised and almost never fatigued by the complexity that herringbones can bring to the textural excitement, yet the simplicity of the pattern. The miniature pattern scale makes it a remarkable imitation of textures rather than blatantly eye-catching patterns. From the visual point-of-view, it is more enticing, especially when applied to certain fabrications such as winter tweeds or summer silks.
This fall, we are pleased to bring a successor to our original herringbone to the table in addition to our monochromatic-schemed herringbone - our claim to fame, perhaps. With the exclusive right to create this ready-to-wear piece, we are pleased to marry our aesthetics again with menswear journalist and authority Permanent Style’s beautiful oatmeal Shetland tweed sourced via renowned British manufacturer Holland & Sherry's archive.
Not deterring far from the original pattern, the new colour scheme makes the new garment a conversational piece of the season. This enduring and versatile design embodies the essence of modern classicism. As usual, the adaptability to dress up and down showcases the forte of our tailoring house style when concocted with thoughtfully executed cloth. Lower in colour contrast to the house signature, this piece expresses a more elegant image than its predecessor. With predictable shirt and tie styling options aside, Permanent Style's mastermind, a friend of the house Simon Crompton and our cofounder Buzz would like to take you through the rest of the article in styling with their personal flavour imbued in each ensemble.
Vintage chambray shirt, because the warm oatmeal shade just counters so well with a soft cool tone. One can choose to style with a tie, but on more casual occasions, the alternative would be to bare the chest a little or to layer an undershirt with our white or ecru knitted t-shirt. Simon also wears our bespoke pleated cotton trousers in olive.
People often forget the change of weather comes gradually, not all of a sudden. Layers come in time as if they are slices of Lasagne sheets. Beginning with an undershirt or our white knitted t-shirt where we covered our transeasonal styling earlier on, dressers can style the sport jacket with our heather grey long sleeve polo before the cashmere jumper as Simon demonstrated. Chinos as opposed to denim, albeit suitable, we also recommend our Civilman trousers to pair as the in-between, especially olive for all-year-round use, or brown moleskin when peak winter comes.
Buzz's take has a more youthful and adventurous take as opposed to the classical look. To pull off the white-on-white look requires attention to colours to the slightest. Instead of wearing the stark White Denim Civilman Trousers, the Vanilla 'Pod' alternative tones down the outfit with faintly speckled colours, also a hint of warmth complementing the tonal outlook. In between the top and the bottom comes a contrasting suede Western belt to break up the colours, with black shades and suede loafers to tie in the application of opposing shades.
