From the beginning, The Anthology has been guided by the belief that what we see, from wherever we stand, is only part of a larger and evolving picture. Each new space offers a different cultural perspective, revealing new ways of seeing, dressing, and living.
Our presence in Hong Kong and Taiwan marked early glimpses of this world in motion. With each step forward, the support of our community has continued to shape what The Anthology can become. Every expansion, every new address, is more than a point on a map. It becomes a catalogue of a shared world — one built through collaboration, conversation, and a commitment to craft.
Shanghai was a city that grew rapidly. Innovation manifested as ultra-modern skyscrapers that rose alongside a bustling and futuristic energy, but the district where the French Concession once lay prohibited heavy industry. What resulted was a quiet pocket of the city steeped in memory, and revealed with romance.
Once a quiet refuge to writers, thinkers, and members of the cultural sphere, the calmness that existed within this district still lingers. Here, things move at a different tempo.
Wide boulevards marked by low-rise historic architecture, with curved roads and quiet cul-de-sacs that resist the city’s density. London Plane trees, planted more than a century ago, stretch across these streets in dense and overlapping canopies. Their figures cast shadows more prevalent than the concrete. Thus, this leafy oasis was dubbed ‘The Paris of the East’.
For The Anthology, we envisioned this atmosphere as a space of attention, where the ever-growing identity we have been developing over time is finally given room to surface. The conversations it invites, the pauses it allows, the ideas it gathers.
The Curators’ Gallery
Upon setting foot into La Maison, one enters The Curator’s Gallery— the ground floor of the townhouse and the first encounter with The Anthology.
Establishing the pace of the house from the outset, this level serves as home to our ready-to-wear collections, where classic menswear sits within a context shaped by the present. Pieces are brought together across tailoring, knitwear, shirting, and outerwear. It is a reflection The Anthology’s ethos as a careful curation of fine things — a considered selection shaped by our own perspective.
Pieces are drawn from different houses and disciplines, brought together for their shared attention to craft, character, and longevity. Each item contributes to a modern gentleman’s way of living. The result is not a single viewpoint, but a composed whole: pieces united by craft, character, and relevance.
Rather than a singular statement, the space offers a composed whole. Sightlines remain open, movement is unhurried, and the experience encourages disovery. It is an introduction not only to the collections, but to the pace and sensibility that carry through the rest of La Maison.
Shoe Salon
Ascending to the second floor, is The Salon, a level exclusive to fine footwear and a dedication to the pieces that hold a look together.
The space is calm, open, and where our footwear comes together. Each piece is developed in close collaboration with master craftspeople whose traditions and techniques align with our own values. These partnerships allow us to form and construction with precision that is grounded in wearability. The result is a space shaped by the same care and discipline as the craft itself.
Here, our own footwear is presented alongside pieces developed in collaboration with Crockett & Jones, Bowhill & Elliott, and Stefano Bemer. These collaborations sit at the core of the space. Alongside this, and through our partnership with Tassels Hong Kong, the space also brings together a wider selection of fine footwear. Names such as John Lobb, Edward Green, Alden, and others are presented together, each pair to stand on its own while forming part of a broader, considered curation.
Alongside these are selections curated in partnership with Tassels Hong Kong, bringing together a breadth of shoemaking mastery under a single roof. The Salon offers a quiet conversation between makers, methods, and philosophies — each pair chosen not for novelty, but for its ability to endure, to age well, and to accompany the wearer through daily life.
The Attic
At the top of the house, The Attic reveals itself as a more intimate counterpart to the floors below. Set within a maisonette defined by arched wooden pillars and columned gables, the space sits slightly removed from the street, offering a sense of elevation and quiet.
Natural light enters softly, filtered through the structure of the roofline, while the proportions of the room invite pause rather than passage. This is a place designed for conversation — for fittings that unfold over time, for ideas to be exchanged, refined, and revisited. The atmosphere mirrors that of The Anthology’s Hong Kong showroom and Taipei store, continuing our shared language across cities.
The Attic serves as the home of our custom tailoring, where garments are shaped through dialogue and process, and the heart of what we do at The Anthology. Seating is arranged to encourage ease, and the room’s openness allows focus without formality. From here, one can look out over the street below, observing the city at a distance while remaining removed from its pace.
As the final floor of La Maison, The Attic completes the journey through the house. It is not a conclusion, but a quieter continuation — a space where time slows, where attention deepens, and where the philosophy of The Anthology finds its most personal expression.
We are grateful for the journey that has brought us here, and for the community that moves with us across cities and cultures. With this new chapter, we welcome both familiar faces and new voices, and look forward to what lies ahead. Thank you for being part of The Anthology, whether you’re new or a long-time supporter.
From Tuesday through Sunday, from 12:30pm to 8:30pm.
We welcome you to La Maison at: No. 193 Wulumuqi South Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai.
