Free Thee Three — Freeman Popovers You Should Know About This Season

It’s been heartwarming to see the myriad ways Anthologists and we ourselves have styled these Freeman Popovers. Worn open-collared, as always, wouldn’t have expected otherwise, these shirts embrace a bit of chest allure, often leaning towards a louche sensation when worn untucked. Sometimes, they sport a half tuck, or 'French' tuck they call it, or are paired with tailoring, bringing the free-spirited beach shirt back to the city in more polished looks. It seems that the 60s-inspired beach shirts have found a new niche in menswear.

The generously sized deep chest pocket remains as practical as ever, complemented by a specially designed collar with horn buttons positioned for optimal fastening: one above the chest and another below the neck, thoughtfully positioned for one to control the chest exposure, also a breeze to slip into. This thoughtful yet straightforward design conveniently offers the ‘throw-on-and-go' appeal, but it is each design’s unique textile choice that keeps us coming back to it again and again.

Ore is an interesting one because you start off finding it a bit coarse against the skin, but give it a few minutes, you won’t need more. Think open-weaved tropical wool, like Fresco, or our Everyman series, but woven in raw linen. Moments after wearing, you’d thank us, especially if you’re under the blazing heat. It airs and ventilates superbly well. The woven textures are striking. Because of the chunkier and looser yarn, the abundance of herringbone woven texture is so amplified. You see these intricate textures in the herringbone weave, like a frame within a frame, dissecting an onion layer by layer, just striking to find from a lightweight summer piece like this.

And now, for the promised Easter Eggs, a discreet launch as we only hold limited quantities of these. We identify them as Artefacts, textiles appear only once and won’t be able to restock once depleted. Alongside Ore this season, we are also introducing Stream and Soil.

Stream reverberates with its never-met cousin Wave, with broader sea and sand stripes. Natural oatmeal undertone, with soft faded block stripes contrasting against the piece. This 55% linen, 45% cotton blend from Japan brings in a sense of lightness and agility, with a hand of smoothness sweeping across the body. The mildly brushed surface has christened it a gentle handle which feels extraordinarily soothing to the body.

Soil presents a brown-based farmer check,  bridging vintage workwear style with our modern sensibility in design. A deadstock piece, sourced from our long-term collaborator and supplier Fox Brothers based out in Somerset, this is a soft plain-weave featherweight wool, open-weaved, keeping it crisp and dry while the worsted finishing retains the softness and fineness against the skin.

Stream and Soil are now exclusively available by-request only. We are delighted to unveil our new section, Artefacts, where connoisseurs can discover unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Existing customers of The Anthology may follow their usual sizing for orders. For further inquiries and sizing assistance, please contact us at customercare@theanthology.net. Don't miss the opportunity. These exquisite textiles are exceptionally rare and will be unavailable once sold out.
